The events of the Winter War become impressively familiar in the museums in Kuhmo and Suomussalmi at the actual venues of the battles. If you wish, you can order a person who is familiar with the course of events and their backgrounds as a guide for the Winter War tour. More information on opening hours and guide services can be found on the respective museum's website.

Lentiira Holiday village is conveniently located between the best-suited military history sites: 20 minutes drive to the Kuhmo Winter War Museum, and 60 minutes drive from Winter War Museum Raatteen Portti. For roadtrip overnight visitors, we recommend the breakfast-smoke sauna-dinner package, which is best ordered in advance.

Kuhmo Winter War Museum

The Kuhmo Winter War Museum is a museum run by the City of Kuhmo, which was opened to the public in July 1994. The exhibition features objects and scale models that tell about the battles of Kuhmo, the daily lives of Finnish and Soviet soldiers and frontline care. The rooms and showcases present various themes such as evacuation, the bombing of the church village of Kuhmo, the care of the front and the wounded, the fighting and the reorganization of life after the peace was made.

Winter War Museum Raatteen Portti

Raatteen Portti is located in Suomussalmi in the immediate vicinity of the authentic battlefields of the Winter War. The 17-hectare museum area includes e.g. a permanent Winter War Exhibition, a Continuation War Exhibition, and authentic wartime pottery. The three-hectare monument is chiseled along the Kuhmo - Suomussalmi road. 17,000 boulders were needed to build the monument.
