Day 1 Arrival to winter wonderland

Transfer from Kajaani airport/train to Lentiira Holiday Village. After check-in dinner is served at our atmospheric Pirtti restaurant. We serve mainly traditional Finnish dishes with local ingredients. During the welcoming evening guests will get familiar with the resort and holiday program.

Day 2: Peculiar Reindeers and Sauna Sisu

Introduction to the forest reindeer and tamed reindeer herding tradition in Kainuu. Get familiar with and take photographs of domesticated reindeer. After a little reindeer sledge ride we will make a souvenir necklace or keyring that you can bring back home. Duration: 3 hours + picnic lunch at Kota.

Sauna is the core and essence of the Finnish lifestyle, and perhaps the key to our high ranking in the annual happiness records.  Nothing compares to the relaxing effect of löyly as we call the heat spreading from the saunas stove. In winter things get even more exciting with a dip in avanto, a hole in the frozen lake ment for winter swimming. Gather your sisu and bring a swimsuit for shared sauna experience. Duration:  1 hour incl. refreshments.

Day 3: Guided wildlife & dipper snowshoe trek to the riverside

Day 4: Get lucky ice-fishing on the lake

Introduction to the art of ice-fishing learning about local species and techniques to lure them. Short hike to the best pilkki spots on the lake. Laid-back time in hope of catching some perch or pike from the hole in the ice. Duration: 3 hours + picnic lunch at Kota.

Day 5: Snowmobile safari & Kuhmo sights

Transfer to Kuhmo where awaits snowmobile safari in the snow-covered landscape. You will drive some 20 - 25 km with a little break having hot drinks and cookies in the wilds. The basic package includes 2 persons per 1 snowmobile, duration 2 hours.** After the excursion there will be a lunch, sights and shopping break in Kuhmo downtown.

Optional Adventurous rapid floating experience featuring guided swim down the river Pajakka. You’ll first familiarize the still waters first and then proceed to the floating rapid. Warm underwear and waterproof rescue suit, rafting life jacket and helmet provided. Duration: 2,5h incl. hot chocolate by the open fire.

Day 6: Skiing Tour and Aurora Marvel

Get familiar with the surrounding landscape by cross-country skiing excursion. After our introduction to the setting, you can choose from 3km - 10km self-guided routes either to Torvilampi lean-on in the forest, through village sights or follow the northern trails along the ice-covered lakeshore. Duration: 1h - 4h depending on chosen route and pace.

Introduction to the aurora borealis as phenomen. Sitting down on a snowmobile sledge that drives you through the dark landscape under the night skies. Sitting down at bonfires to admire the nocturnal atmosphere and perhaps the Northern Light dancing in the skies. Duration: 2,5 hours incl. hot drink and bun.

Day 7: Farewell Lentiira

Check out after breakfast and transfer to Kajaani airport/train/bus connection.

You will be staying in a traditional Finnish wooden cottage with a terrace overlooking the lake. Our newly renovated midsize cottage (type Joutsen or Tiira) comes with cosy fireplace in the combined living room and  kitchen space.

The package features daily meals including breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner. The menu is set including a variety of local foods including game, fish and vegetable dishes depending on the day. Apart from bread, the recipees we use are naturally glutenfree.  

If you have special diet or love cooking yourself we suggest asking for the self-catering option (with -1100€ discount per two persons.) Our  cottages have good amenities for cooking. We will provide you with basic cooking kit (oil, salt and pepper) and possibility to do groceries in well-equipped supermarket 2 times during the week. If this is your preference, choose "No meals" option when buying the package online.
